26) Scott Pilgrim Vs The World

Funny! Awesome! Bright! So visually entertaining! A rad movie for comic geeks and gamers. Scott Pilgrim is a must-see even if you despise Mr. Michael Cera.

25) Dinner for Schmucks

Holy crap. This was incredibly unbearable to watch. Cringe-worthy. Only saw it because of love for Paul Rudd and Steve Carell.

24) Inception

This movie was simply incredible!  We can honestly say it is unique in that we haven’t seen anything like it before.  The whole cast lived up to their expectations and Christopher Nolan managed to produce something that (in our opinion) topped The Dark Knight.  Definitely a complex idea, but not to the point that one goes crazy.  The hard-thinking parts are well balanced with the action so to make the film great.  One of those films that keeps you talking about it for a while after.

23) Knight and Day

Funnier than expected, Cameron Diaz and Tom Cruz together made the movie quite hilarious.  Turned out to be a romantic comedy infused with action rather than the expected action movie.  May not be a super hit, but definitely an entertaining summer movie.

22) Toy Story 3

Amazing! We grew up with Andy and the toys, and well, it was very reminiscent of our childhood and even leaving for college a few years ago.  Lived up to the Toy Story legend, the toys are still the ones we all know and love on the biggest scale adventure they have been on yet.  Full of tears and laughter, will definitely go down as a Disney classic.

21) A- Team

We never saw the original A-Team, but thoroughly liked the film.  Not only was it full of action but also managed to get in some hilarious moments, kept us laughing and on the edge of our seats throughout.

20) The Losers

Fun… the best way to describe this film was fun.  Nothing special, just alot of action.  Not quite as expected, the comic was quite a bit better, but at least a movie that any guy would like.

19) Kick Ass

Not like any super hero movie you have seen before.  The opening scene sets it up as a crazy film.  Pretty soon, you find yourself watching a little girl beat up bad guys and Nicolas Cage calling himself Big Daddy.  The whole movie was awesome, beginning to end, basically a Watchmen that you don’t need to have read the comic to enjoy.

18) Date Night

Steve Carrell and Tina Fey were amazing together.  They are amazing alone, but put them together and hilarity ensues.  The movie kept everyone laughing the whole time, and of course managed to fit in a nice message.  It is a comedy that breaks away from all the dirty comedies out there, it stays classy and yet is as hilarious as can be.

17) Waking Sleeping Beauty

It is a film about Disney, of course it’s going to be great!  The movie portrayed Disney in a light that its not normally seen in, as the underdogs.  It is a documentary, but that didn’t make it any less entertaining, we were definitely enveloped in the story the whole time.  Getting to see how all the amazing classics came to be gave us a renewed appreciation for those classics, not just because they were fun cartoons, but rather because we saw that they are masterpieces in the way they were created and in how they were received by so many ages.

16) A Single Man

A very beautiful film. The play with colors, textures, camera movements, enriches the simple storyline. The film poses a question beyond my years — Is life worth living alone, after having lost love?

Rating:

15) Alice In Wonderland

This movie fell short of our expectations.  Yes, it is directed by the famous Tim Burton, but we were not impressed.  The narrative was lacking in many ways and was not written in a way to keep us hooked.  The one aspect that may have saved it was the visuals.  The scenery and landscape, with its craziness and colors of Wonderland, were sensational but the problem was that this was the best part of the movie.  Its lack of ability to inspire excitement made it a not-so-memorable film.

14) Shutter Island

This movie was amazing!  Having read the book, I must say Scorsese did an amazing job at creating the movie, not much was changed (thats a good thing).  The creepiness and craziness of the island was upheld impeccably by the cinematography, and the acting by Leo, Mark Ruffalo, and Michelle Williams made the story line astonishing.  It was definitely a creepy, psychotic thriller that kept you thinking and one that must be seen multiple times to appreciate every little detail of it.

13) Whip It

So, anything with Jens Lekman is good in my book! This film makes me happy to see girls being awesome and not dilly-dallying on mundane things like clothes, dances, and boys… actually, there is a little love story in it, but she dumps him in the end, so whoo! It’s nice to see Ellen Page in more precious movies these days, Hard Candy is a good film but not one I’d whip out when it’s a rainy day. And if you love Drew Barrymore, this is her directorial debut, and quite a good debut if you ask me.

12) Up In The Air

Jason Reitman directs another memorable movie. Who thought people were hired just to fire others? And this was much more tolerable than Tom Hanks’ The Terminal. George Clooney is as charismatic and loveable as pre-Batman. Good laughs, meaningful banter, and true to the human heart.

11) Youth In Revolt

The book’s better. Understatement. (Michael Cera somewhat breaks out of his mold as awkward, virginal babe)

Rating:

10) Fantastic Mr. Fox

Wes Anderson’s touch was as much apparent throughout this film as Tim Burton in Batman. Except this is a good thing, a very good thing. The still-frame animation felt more alive than a lot of live action movies. It’s heartfelt, cunning, and simple.

9) Pirate Radio The Boat That Rocked

Part coming of age story, part rebellion, and extra parts of good ol’ rock and roll. The characters had great chemistry, and their shenanigans on the ship were very enticing. We’ll have to see this one again.

8 ) Where The Wild Things Are

Want to tap into your inner turmoil and frustration as a child, but in a optimistic manner? Watch this. This seemingly children’s movie can be quite dark at times. The “Wild Things” aren’t just monsters, they have dreams and fears of their own. But like the book, the meaningless antics of childhood took you on a journey. The soundtrack is enough to make you slip into your footy pjs and don a crown and roar along.

7) Zombieland

A new classic zombie movie, and to think any zombie movie would have been acknowledged after Shawn Of The Dead. The intro itself stands out. Action, comedy, horror, Bill Murray, and romance, this flick has all the elements of a killer movie.

6) Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs

HILARIOUS! A 3-D movie done right! So engaging I was reaching out for a hamburger. A far-out storyline done tastefully. Bill Hader wins bonus points and NPH as his talking pet monkey is price…wait for it…less.

5) Julie & Julia

Meryl Streep >>> Amy Adams. Obviously. The dual stories stays true to the novel. Mouth-watering, yet leaving our tongues dry.

4) Paper Heart

Cuute cuute cuuute. We’re prolly in the minority, but Charlyne Yi is cuuute. The combined narrative and documentary (with the interviews and different definitions of love) made it quite unique. It had some suh-weet animations. Adorable, that’s it.

Rating:

3) Funny People

Long. Apatow, why not go back to your 40 Year Old Virgin roots? The story line could have been condensed, instead parts are dragged out that contain no character development, meaning boring at times. It did maintain some funny, but no memorable quotes or quibbles. Seth Rogen is skinny here and a cutie, so 3 stars for him!

Rating:

2) Adam

Eh, this movie did not live up to our expectations. The trailer made it seem like a fun romantic comedy, needless to say it wasn’t much fun. More depressing than made out to be, it did have its funny, awkward moments though. The soundtrack was good, featuring Coconut Records. The reason for its 2 star rating… would probably not see this movie again, but was bearable the first time.

1) 500 Days of Summer

A friend pointed it out to me that this was our generation’s Annie Hall. And if you saw both movies I’m sure you’d agree along with us. Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt not only were unconventional characters, they were so damn cute together. The cinematography is the cherry on top of a delicious sundae narrative. The reason for its 5 star rating… this movie can be seen over and over.
