16. a disney valentine’s

17 Feb

The grown-up couples can have their dress up and reservations at fancy-smancy restaurants. Leave us young couples to play. What better place to be a kid, and be in love, other than at Disneyland. But let me tell ya, as young as we may think we are, we only lasted from 8 in the morning till 4, which is a good 8 hours, but nothing close to being there ’till closing time at midnight. And boy, we were tired! So, for those reading who have a significant other, Happy Belated Valentine’s Day, and for those who don’t, Happy Belated Singles Awareness Day, we used to be in your shoes not too long ago.

I awoke to Josh giving me flowers, tulips preferable-ly. Roses, (like diamonds) I feel, are still out my league, besides tulips are my favorite flowers. The vase I picked out last Valentine’s Day, and is still a lovely compliment to the bouquet. The card he gave me is adorable, it reads “Know what makes this Valentine so sweet? You!” and it has cute illustrations of sweet things like ice cream, cake slices, and cupcakes. Josh still knows how to charm his girl.

Hurrying to be at Disneyland at opening time (8 ‘o’ clock), meant no breakfast, so by the time we parked and was on the tram that took you to the park, we were hankering for a big breakfast meal. I’ve always wanted to eat at Carnation Cafe, the charming little outdoor restaurant along Disneyland’s Main St. USA. In my amazement, we got a seat (whenever I passed by, it always looked so jam packed).  Josh always say it’s good to order out when you’re hungry, and it’s true, for the most part. He ordered The Cafe Scramble -scrambled eggs w/ melted chedder, breakfast potatoes and a croissant served w/ sausage links. The potatoes were so good, sliced not chopped, and weren’t salty. I ordered what I’ve been craving for months, the Mickey-Shaped Waffle. I was starving so I just attacked Mickey’s face, but I did have the decency to take a picture of the delicious morsel before devouring.

With our bellies a bursting, twas time to walk it out (now walk it out) and do some attractions! We weren’t quite to ready for Space Mountain or Indiana Jones, so Peter Pan’s Flight was the ride to start us off. I guess you could say that on Valentine’s Day, Josh and I went on a ship and flew above London, then visited Neverland. Right there sounds like an awe-some date. Next was Thunder Mountain, where we screamed our heads off. Then to Toon Town we went. We haven’t been there since we were tiny bugs ourselves, and it felt as if we were the oldest kids there, not counting parents. Josh befriended the cutest little boy with blonde hair just like his while we were at Mickey’s House. Mickey’s pad is nice, it was only the morning, but it was starting to get hot outside, and Mickey’s place was so air-conditioned and spacious. It felt good to cool off as I watched some tv in his living room, while Josh played with his supersized piano-trumpet-drum set. We finally got to meet the Mouse, he was pretty quiet, but sweet. Afterwards we stayed in Toon Town a little longer to ride the rest off the attractions and to goof off with the props there.

On our way from Toon Town to Space Mountain, I decided that I wanted my face painted. After little persuasion, Josh decided to get his face done too. The result, I had hearts spewing out of my eye (it looks cuter than how I can describe it), while Josh got a wicked cool rocket ship on his cheek, with planets and stars. We got lots of compliments, but here’s a little dialogue between a couple Josh was sitting next to when we had ice-cream:

Woman: *points to us* Can we get our faces painted?
Woman’s Man: *mumbles incoherantly, but sounds like a negative*
Woman: Fine. That’s okay, I’m NOT 13 anymore.

What a hater, but I guess not all girls can have amazing boyfriends who’ll do anything (like get their faces painted) for their ladies.

By this time, we were ready to ride the big guns Disney has to offer. Fast passes for both  Indiana Jones and Space Mountain, would make you believe that we are zee winners, but the sound in Indiana Jones wasn’t working, leaving just Josh and I (and the cool dude sitting in front of me) to do all the sound effects, and at Space Mountain our plan to make a heart with our hands for the picture was screwed up because of Miss Meany Hands. Oh well. The rides themselves were still fun.

Because our bodies decided to start failing on us, ice cream was necessary because sugar=energy! I got my usual butter pecan, and Josh w/ his undying love of chocolate, got chocolate chip. We went to a few more low key attractions like the Tomorrowland’s Innoventions, where we were told that the moon would be our dream home, and Main St. U.S.A’s “Great Moments With Mr. Lincoln.” With the crowds multiplying even more so, and the heat rising, we agreed that it was time to go and get some non-sugar based food. We said our good-byes to Disneyland, and shopped a little around Downtown Disney (we got 2 more Mickey Vinyls) then headed home, extremely exhausted but happy. So that was our Valentine’s, how was yours?
